Can I switch to a different plan?

Yes: pick another billing period, or another plan the server's owner lets you switch to, on the server's invite page or under Change plan in /membership. Moving up happens now for the prorated difference; moving down starts when your paid period ends.

What you can switch

The billing period, on any paid plan. If your plan is sold at more than one period, such as weekly, monthly, quarterly, every six months or yearly, you can move to any other period it’s sold at.

Another plan, if the owner allows it. The server’s owner chooses which of their plans members can switch between. Any other plan is bought separately: it starts a second subscription beside yours, the invite page says so before you pay, and you cancel the old one yourself if you want to.

Where to switch

  1. On the server’s invite page. Open it while signed in and select the plan or billing period you want. The button turns into a Switch button, and the line under it says what you pay and when.
  2. In Discord. Run /membership in the server and press Change plan beside your plan, or press the plan’s button on the server’s pinned plans panel. Only you see the reply, and it asks you to confirm.
  3. On Stripe’s billing page. Manage billing in Discord, or Card & invoices on the invite page, opens Stripe’s page for your subscription, which offers the same switches.

Each one shows what the switch costs and when it takes effect before anything changes. If the price changed before you confirm, nothing is charged and you’re shown the new numbers.

When it happens, and what you pay

Moving up happens now. That’s a plan that costs the same or more per payment, on the same or a longer billing period. You pay the difference for the rest of the current period straight away, and the new plan and its role start once that payment goes through.

A longer period starts today. Moving to a longer billing period starts a fresh period now: you pay its price less what’s left of the period you’ve already paid for.

Moving down waits. A plan that costs less per payment, or bills more often, starts when the period you’ve paid for ends. You keep your current plan and role until then, and the invite page and /membership show the date, with Undo switch to take it back.

During a free trial a switch happens straight away and costs nothing. The trial carries on to the same end date, and the new plan’s price is charged when it ends.

If the payment doesn’t go through, nothing changes and you keep your plan and role. Your plan shows the switch waiting for payment, with Pay now, which opens Stripe’s page where you can use another card or confirm with your bank, and Cancel switch. A switch left unpaid lapses after about a day.

Your role

If the new plan comes with a different role, the new role goes on first and the old one comes off after it, so you always hold one of the two. A change of billing period keeps the role you have.

If a setting in the server stops the new role from being given, you keep the old one until it can be, and the server’s owner has been told. I paid but didn’t get my role explains more.

When you can’t switch

Something else is open on your plan. With an unpaid invoice, pay it first; a paused plan needs resuming first; a plan set to end needs Keep first. The invite page says which, in place of the button.

Pause and Cancel while a switch is waiting. You can’t pause a plan while a switch is scheduled or waiting for payment: undo it or let it go through first. You can always cancel, and cancelling calls the switch off, so the plan ends at the end of your period instead.

Currency and codes. A switch never changes the currency you pay in, so only plans that can be billed in it are offered. A promo code the owner limited to your current plan stops applying on the new one, and the price you’re shown says so; a code for every plan carries over.

Still stuck?

Ask the server owner first — they take the payment and can see your subscription. If you paid and flatpass never delivered the role, email support@flatpass.io with the server’s name and your Discord username.
