The best Discord subscription bots

A Discord subscription bot sells a role. A member pays, the bot gives them the role, and it takes the role away when the subscription ends. The main ones are flatpass, Whop, PayBot, Subscord, LaunchPass and Upgrade.chat, plus Discord’s own Server Subscriptions. They differ in how they charge, a flat monthly fee or a cut of every sale, and in where the money lands.

I make flatpass, so it’s first on this list. Each entry below says when another option is the better pick, and the cost table shows where flatpass costs more.

Where flatpass isn’t the cheapest

  • From the sixteenth paid member up to about $1,036 a month in sales, Whop’s 3% costs less than flatpass’s $29 Starter plan. PayBot’s 3% does up to about $967.
  • At 81–500 subscribers, and again past 750, Subscord’s flat plans ($65, then $199) cost less than flatpass’s ($79 or $149, then $399). The $10,000 column is an example.
  • Up to 15 paid members, flatpass costs nothing beyond Stripe’s processing. Subscord’s free plan matches that up to 10 subscribers.

The bots

What each one does, when to choose it, and the catch.

1. flatpass: best for a simple setup and 0% of sales

A Discord bot that sells your roles through your own Stripe account. Setup is four steps: add the bot, connect Stripe, pick a role, set a price. A member pays on your invite page, gets the role straight away, and loses it when the subscription ends. Free up to 15 paid members, then flat plans from $29 a month, and 0% of sales on every plan.

  • Your money, your Stripe. Stripe connects through its own approval screen, with no API key to paste, and sales settle in your account, not a platform balance.
  • Narrow permissions. The bot asks for Manage Roles and Create Invite, not Administrator.
  • Sales by source, built in. Visits and how many subscribed, split by ref tag, site, region and device, with no Google Analytics to set up.
  • In English, German and Spanish, both the dashboard and the invite page.
Choose it if
you want one thing done simply, and you have up to 15 paid members or sales past about $1,036 a month.
The catch
payments go through Stripe only (cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay), with no PayPal or crypto. flatpass gates Discord only for now, and TradingView access is coming soon. And it’s a young product.

2. Whop: best for marketplace discovery

A marketplace and checkout platform that gates Discord, Telegram and TradingView access. No monthly fee. Discord-gated sales pay 3% plus Whop’s own 2.7% + $0.30 processing. Sales go to a Whop balance, and payouts cost from $2.50.

Choose it if
you want Whop’s marketplace to bring you buyers, or your sales are small.
The catch
the 3% isn’t on Whop’s public pricing page (it’s on each gating app’s listing), and your customers check out on Whop rather than with you.

3. PayBot: best for no monthly fee

A Discord bot that sells paid roles through your own Stripe, connected over OAuth. No monthly fee, 3% per sale.

Choose it if
your sales are small and you want no monthly bill.
The catch
the 3% keeps growing with your revenue.

4. Subscord: best for crypto, and cheapest at some sizes

A paid-access bot for Discord that takes cards and crypto. Free up to 10 subscribers, then $39, $65 or $199 a month, with 0% of card sales. Crypto payments cost 0.5% plus gas.

Choose it if
you need crypto, or you’re in a band where its flat plans cost less (see above).
The catch
you connect Stripe by pasting a Stripe secret or restricted API key into it, where most of the others use Stripe’s own connect flow.

5. LaunchPass: best for Discord, Telegram and Slack together

A paid-access layer for Discord, Telegram and Slack, on your own Stripe. $29 a month per community plus 3.5% of sales.

Choose it if
you run communities on more than one chat platform.
The catch
you pay both a monthly fee and a percentage, the fee is per community, its free plan can’t charge members, and the bot asks for Administrator.

6. Upgrade.chat: best for PayPal and Venmo

A Discord bot for paid roles that takes PayPal, Venmo and crypto (through PayPal or Venmo) as well as Stripe. Free up to 500 subscribers at 5.9% of sales, with lower percentages on paid plans.

Choose it if
your members want to pay with PayPal or Venmo.
The catch
at 5.9%, its free plan takes the highest percentage of the bots here, and the bot asks for Administrator.

7. Discord Server Subscriptions: best for staying inside Discord

Discord’s own paid memberships, bought inside the Discord app. 15.4% all-in: 6% processing, then 10% of the rest. Payouts arrive within 45 days of the end of the month.

Choose it if
you’re in the US and want nothing outside Discord.
The catch
it isn’t available outside the United States, it needs a new Stripe account, and it’s the most expensive option here.

How to choose

Does it take the role away when someone stops paying?

Every bot here gives the role when a payment succeeds. Check that it also removes the role when the subscription ends. Otherwise someone has to check a list by hand.

Does it charge a percentage or a flat fee, at your volume?

A percentage is cheaper when sales are small. A flat fee is cheaper once they’re not. Work out your monthly sales and read the matching column above.

Where does the money land?

Some bots charge on your own Stripe or PayPal, so the money and the customer records are yours. Whop and Discord pay out from their own balance on their own schedule.

Which payment methods do your members use?

Cards cover most buyers. PayPal and Venmo mean Upgrade.chat. Crypto means Subscord or Upgrade.chat.

How does it connect to Stripe?

Stripe’s own connect flow means you approve access in your Stripe dashboard and can revoke it there. Pasting an API key gives the bot that key.

What permissions does the bot ask for?

Selling a role needs Manage Roles, and adding buyers to your server needs Create Invite. That is what flatpass asks for. LaunchPass and Upgrade.chat ask for Administrator, which holds every permission in the server.

Common questions

What’s the best Discord subscription bot?

It depends on your size and on how your members pay. For a simple setup with 0% of sales, flatpass. With no monthly fee at small volume, PayBot or Whop. For crypto, Subscord. For PayPal, Upgrade.chat. The cost table shows which is cheapest at your sales.

Is there a free Discord subscription bot?

flatpass is free up to 15 paid members and Subscord up to 10 subscribers, apart from Stripe’s processing. PayBot and Whop have no monthly fee but take 3% of each sale. Upgrade.chat’s free plan takes 5.9%.

Which Discord payment bots take 0% of sales?

flatpass, on every plan, and Subscord on card payments. Past their free plans, both charge a flat monthly fee instead, and Stripe’s processing still applies.

Can a bot remove the role when a member stops paying?

Yes. The bots here give the role when a payment succeeds and remove it when the subscription ends. On flatpass, a failed renewal keeps the role while Stripe retries the card.

Is there a Discord paywall bot?

Yes. A subscription bot is a paywall: the paid channels are visible only to a role, and the bot gives that role to members who pay.

What’s the best bot for a trading or education Discord?

The same bots work. What differs is the price level. Trading and course memberships usually cost more, so a flat fee with 0% of sales pulls ahead sooner. Check the $10,000 column above. If you also sell TradingView invite-only scripts, Whop gates TradingView today. flatpass gates Discord only for now, and TradingView access is coming soon. Charging for a trading Discord.

What’s the cheapest LaunchPass alternative for Discord?

Up to 15 paid members, flatpass costs nothing beyond Stripe’s processing. From there, Whop’s 3% costs less up to about $1,036 a month in sales, and PayBot’s up to about $967. Above that, a flat fee with 0% of sales costs less, as with flatpass or Subscord. LaunchPass and flatpass compared.
