How do I get paid in a different currency?

In your Stripe Dashboard, make that currency your default settlement currency and add a bank account in it; flatpass picks the change up on its own. Tiers you have already made keep their currency, so change it before your first one.

Where to change it

  1. Open Stripe from your flatpass dashboard. Press Stripe Dashboard on the Payments card. It opens the Stripe account flatpass charges on, and the line above the button names that account’s email. If Stripe shows a different account, you are signed in with another Stripe login.
  2. Add the currency and make it your default. In Stripe, go to Settings → Linked accounts and payouts and open the Settlement and transfer rules tab. Choose Add settlement currency, pick the currency, then open its … menu and choose Make default currency; it is marked Default once it is. Which currencies Stripe offers there depends on your account’s country.
  3. Add a bank account in that currency. On the Linked accounts tab, under Bank accounts for your payments balance, the new currency’s row asks for a bank account, and Stripe pays that currency out only once one is linked. The bank does not have to be in that currency’s country: a French account accepts a French IBAN held in US dollars.
  4. Check your flatpass dashboard. flatpass follows on its own, and your Payments card then reads Settles in USD, or whichever currency you chose.

Tiers you’ve already made

A tier keeps the currency it was priced in, including when you edit its price; only tiers you create after the change use the new one. There is no way to move a tier to another currency, and a new tier needs a Discord role no other tier holds, archived ones included, so change the currency before your first tier.

Payments on older tiers carry on as before. Stripe keeps them in the old currency while it stays one of your settlement currencies, and converts them into your new default if you remove it.

What the currency decides

It is the currency you type tier prices in, the one your flatpass dashboard shows its figures in, and the one Stripe pays you in. Members are still shown and charged in their own currency where Stripe supports it.

A payment in a currency that is not one of your settlement currencies is converted by Stripe into your default, and conversion costs extra: 2% on top of the card fee on a euro-area account. The rest of Stripe’s fees are on How much of a member’s payment do I keep?

A payment in one of your settlement currencies stays in it and is paid out to the bank account linked for it. Settling in a currency other than your country’s own has its own fee, which Stripe lists beside each currency: on a German account the euro is free and the US dollar costs 1%. Collected this month on your dashboard counts only payments in your default currency.
